Pineapple.
The word “Rêngthei” comes from two Hmar words — Rêng, meaning “king,” and Thei, meaning “fruit".
It is said that pineapple saplings were first brought from Tripura and cultivated in and around Hmarkhawlien village in Cachar district of Assam. Since the Hmar refer to Tripura as Rêngpui Ram (Land of the King) the fruit was named Rêngthei, meaning “the fruit from the Land of the King.”
Hmar: Voisûn chu rêngthei sat-ah ha'ng fe'ng ka tih.
English: Today I will go and harvest the pineapples.
